Professional Review

To paraphrase the Bard, a Pontiac G6 with any other roof still drives like a G6. The steering and brakes feel artificially heavy in an attempt to seem sporty, its throttle and engine calibration deliver maximum thrust only from the get-go, and the interior plastics are still disappointing. With the roof up, the car is acceptably rigid and remarkably quiet, but with the top down, the G6's body loosens up considerably. Still, the G6 is one of the most livable four-place convertibles. Six-foot adults fit in the rear buckets-which also accommodate rear-facing child seats with ease-and wind buffeting is almost nil at speeds up to 70 mph. The base price for the top-spec GTP is $29,990 (the GT is $1500 less), making the G6 the smokin' deal for a hard-shell droptop-at least until Volkswagen releases its new Eos.
